Nolan, wildlife centre assistant
We
start work early at the wildlife centre by dropping in to Safeway to
collect free fruit and veg at around 7.30am.
Next it's on the road and I drive into the Evesham Country Park at 7.45am.
The goats are hungry and they enjoy their breakfast before it's all
hands on deck for the early morning feed preparation.
All tastes are catered for and by 8.45am Ann is feeding the pheasants.
Next comes the cleaning ready for opening time, including the rat enclosure,
while some peafowl enjoy the peace before the visitors arrive.
It's 10.15am and I'm still cleaning and only halfway down the list.
"Nice trout, but I'm sure I ordered the full English," our racoon tucks
into his breakfast at 10.20am.
Finally we are ready for opening by 10.25am.
It's 10.35am and time for a well-deserved coffee break before a mid-morning
shower for the iguanas. The endless cycle of cleaning continues when
Rose cleans the rabbits.
Then it's all clean and I think that is probably about it. "Mmm, thanks,
it's ages since breakfast." One of the ponies enjoys a quick snack.
There's great excitement next when a film crew from ITV news drops in
after they got wind of our four Scottish wildcat kittens.
The goats are always popular with the visitors, who are also able to
enjoy a sneak preview of the evening news. There's too much to choose
from when visitors go souvenir shopping in our gift shop. "And she said,"
it's time for a tea time chat with a pig, meanwhile this piggy doesn't
appreciate Nick's hard work.
It's 6pm, which must mean closing time. "Have all the visitors gone
now," it's 6.01pm and this foxy character pops out of his hiding place.
Finally the leash is off. Laddie was born to run and it's time for an
evening stroll in a beautiful part of the Vale.
